Hard to beat the price/value on this tripod ring.  I had the equivalent ring for the earlier USM Macro lens, which was also solidly built, and this one may be better (certainly easier to connect to the lens).  I haven't used the lens on a tripod yet; expect that it'll be fine, but one issue might be ease of rotating the lens in the mount (no internal ring as on earlier lens mount - easier to attach, but might create more friction).  Figure that'll be a minor frustration, it at all.
